Like the Indian Premier League (IPL) India will be missing a great opportunity to host the T20 World Cup scheduled in October. Until April second week things looked pretty good for the BCCI but with the second wave, IPL was indefinitely suspended.
Then BCCI announced that the phase two of IPL will be held in UAE from September and it will conclude on October 15th. But the International Cricket Council (ICC) had asked BCCI’s plans to host the world cup in India.
As the time is ticking, the BCCI categorically hinted to the ICC that the T20 World Cup can be shifted from India to UAE. But the official announcement is awaited. BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah added that all the details will be out soon. Highly placed sources say that the T20 World Cup will begin in UAE from October 17th which is two days after the IPL finals.
Losing the T20 World Cup will be a huge damage for the BCCI and its revenue. This tournament could also have boosted India’s tourism but the global pandemic had other plans.
