The Two Blots In Dhoni’s Career

July 7th happens to be the birthday of team India’s most successful captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Debuted in 2004, Dhoni’s cricketing career took a huge turn with his smashing century against Pakistan in Vizag. Team India never had a proper wicket-keeper batsman and Dhoni filled this spot perfectly. In a span of 15 years, Dhoni played 350 ODIs, 98 T20I and 90 Test matches.

In international cricket, Dhoni is the only captain to win ICC’s T20 World Cup, 50 overs World Cup and Champions Trophy and his record will remain intact as many teams are having different skippers from different formats of the game.

Without a doubt Dhoni is the best captain and as a batsman his record speaks for himself. But there are two blots in his career and they are that Dhoni never scored an overseas century. Be it in limited overs or Test matches, Dhoni did not score a single century in overseas even though he reached 90s many times.

The second blot happens to be the spot fixing allegations on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team. Dhoni has been the captain of the CSK team since its inception and even he was questioned by the Mudgal Committee which was appointed by the Supreme Court. The sealed cover report of Mudgal Committee is unopened but owing to some factors CSK has been banned for two years.

A media house reported that Dhoni was involved in spot fixing but the Ranchi based cricketer sued the channel with Rs 100 crore defamation. This case is still pending.

Despite this and his retirement, Dhoni enjoys a huge following while the CSK fans hope to see their Thala for another couple of years in IPL.
