The entire world hoped that the peace talks between USA-Israel and Iran in Islamabad last week will have a happy ending so that normalcy is going to be restored after a month long escalation of conflict which caused serious impact on various sectors. Unfortunately, the negotiations didn’t meet a fruitful end as US vice President JD Vance returned without any deal.
Meanwhile, Trump has vowed to double down on his aggressive stance and also ordered the US navy to immediately block the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway that has assumed significance during the war times. As the ceasefire deadline looms large and more severe consequences imminent, a fresh hope arrived in the form of latest reports that both sides are likely to involve in fresh talks again very soon.
As per global media reports, both USA and Iran are going to hold the second round of talks on Thursday either in Islamabad or Geneva to reach a deal and end the hostility permanently before the period of ceasefire ends.
However, it is not yet confirmed as discussions are still in the nascent stage and no final decision has been made on timing, delegation level or format of this high-stakes meeting.
Just a while ago, Trump told reporters that the US had been contacted by the other side and that Iran wants to work a deal without providing further details on the persons involved.
In Islamabad, negotiations lasted nearly 21 hours between the two nations in the presence of mediators from Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Oman. Despite the lengthy discussions, both sides failed to reach an agreement as Iran did not promise to give up its nuclear ambitions. Now, Russia has also offered to mediate between USA, Israel and Iran if necessary in the next round of talks so that the conflict doesn’t escalate any further.
Given that a full-blown war will have both economic and political consequences on many countries across the globe, the second round of talks will assume greater significance in the wake of the prevailing situation. A clear picture about the future of this conflict will be out once both nations engage in the truce talks again.
