SR Kalyanamandapam, starring Kiran Abbavaram in the lead role, has surprised the trade. The film, which released as a small film and bagged mixed reviews, is turning out to be a sleeper success. The film has managed to pull crowds to cinemas after a longtime. Especially, after the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, theater business got breather which was on a downward spiral earlier.
There was very little hope of the revival of theatrical business. Even films like Satyadev’s Thimmarusu and Teja Sajja’s Ishq, which were released immediately after pandemic, have failed to sustain in theatres. Whereas two-movie-old Kiran Abbavaram (of Raja Varu Rani Garu fame) broke the jinx.
The DCR (Daily Collection Report) of SR Kalyanamandapam came as a huge relief to theatrical business and gave much-needed confidence to producers and distributors who are contemplating for theatrical releases. Exhibitors are happy that theater business won’t vanish. Buzz is that the number of theaters may be increased for the film in the coming week.
At a time many are preferring the OTT release model, SR Kalyanamandapam proved that theaters have power to pull crowds. Battling against all the odds, the film managed to do well.
However, the real test of the film is from tomorrow which is Monday. It’s acid test to see whether the film would sustain the same heat at BO in the coming week or not.
