In a heart-wrenching news, at least 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims have reportedly died in Saudi Arabia after a passenger bus collided with a diesel tanker on Monday early morning at around 01:30 AM IST. Majority of these devotees belong to Hyderabad as per preliminary reports from the media.
The bus was reportedly travelling from Mecca to Madina. Pilgrims were heading to Madina after completing their sacred rituals in Mecca. All passengers were in deep sleep when the accident happened. The victims believed to include 20 women and 11 children from Hyderabad. The rescue operations are currently going on and the local residents have rushed to the spot to help those who are grievously injured in this collision.
Though the exact number of casualities is yet to be officially confirmed, local sources believe that more than 40 passengers were spot dead after the collision occured. Passengers from Hyderabad and other places of Telangana state in India are said to be in the bus.
There is no official statement yet on the exact cause of the accident but the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the travel agency have confirmed the accident as per media reports. More details will be out shortly.
