Theaters in both the Telugu States continue to bleed as audiences stay away. After a brief spell of Sankranthi, most theaters in both the Telugu States fail to recover even their maintenance costs.
This week is no different. As many as ten films released this week. Sree Vishnu’s Mrithyunjay, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar’s Saraswathi, Sivaji’s Sampradayani Suppini Suddapoosani, and Mansion House Mallesh are notable among them.
But all the films barely excited the audiences and brought them to theaters. The crucial matches of the ongoing Cricket World Cup made things much worse and ate away the whatever little collections they should be getting.
Today, Sunday could be even worse for the new releases, with the crucial final match happening and India playing. Surprisingly, theatres in a few cities are screening today’s final match, and the bookings are quietly impressive. That itself shows the performance of the new releases.
Exam season is also impacting the collections as youth and the families stay away. On the top of all this, the content of the films is not upto the mark so as to bring audiences to the theaters.
The next week, there will be no releases to accommodate the biggies coming from March 19th.
The Exhibitors are praying things will change good as Dhurandhar 2 and Ustaad Bhagath Singh are releasing from March 18th (Premieres) and they would give feeding for theaters continuously for a few weeks ending the success drought.
