After a prolonged dry spell at the box office, Telugu cinema has finally found some much-needed relief. Recent releases Rakasa and Biker have brought audiences back to theatres, registering decent numbers, especially in A centres where urban footfall has shown encouraging growth.
While neither film has opened to massive numbers, the steady collections indicate a positive shift in audience sentiment. Both films have managed to generate word-of-mouth traction, which is crucial in sustaining momentum during non-festival periods.
Multiplex audiences, in particular, have responded well, giving the industry a breather after weeks of underwhelming releases. Sunday is expected to further boost collections, as weekend occupancy traditionally peaks.
However, the evening and night shows could face some impact due to two key IPL matches scheduled today ( SRH vs LSG and CSK vs RCB). Cricket fever often affects theatrical footfall, especially for prime-time shows, and this could slightly dent what would otherwise have been a stronger day.
Despite this minor hurdle, Rakasa and Biker are well-positioned to maintain a steady run over the coming week. With limited competition at the box office, both films have a clear window until April 10 which is when Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit will come out.
