JSP Seeks 40% Share in Local Polls, Is It Feasible?

AP Municipal polls have created a lot of noise among the ruling alliance even before the official notification. Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan’s recent comments have already heatened the political atmosphere in the state. TDP leaders and party workers were disappointed with Pawan’s comments.

Naturally, all eyes are on the seat-sharing between the TDP and Janasena combine and also the BJP. If reports are anything to go by, the final seat sharing formula between the TDP-Janasena-BJP is expected to be announced today.

According to a social media post shared by Minister and Janasena leader Kandula Durgesh, Janasena party has sought a whopping 40.1 percent share of all the posts in Corporations, Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats that roughly comes to 2091 posts.

This includes 6 Mayor posts, 6 Deputy Mayor posts, 5 Standing Committee Chairpersons, 46 Standing Committee Members in the Municipal Corporations and 38 Chairpersons, 41 Vice Chairpersons in Municipalities, 6 Chairpersons, 6 Vice Chairpersons in Nagar Panchayats and 1937 Ward Councillors / Corporators.

All these certainly sound highly difficult and impossible given that there is a stiff competition within the TDP which is quite strong in the grassroots level compared to the Janasena Party which is still far below.

The seat-sharing between TDP and Janasena are totally in Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan’s hands. Even though BJP plays a key role at the Centre, it looks like they understand the tough fight in local polls and they look like they will adjust with reasonable seats.

It needs to be seen how Chandrababu and Pawan handle this smoothly and maturely and pacify the dissent among their party leaders who may be disappointed with the seat-sharing. Opposition YSRCP is waiting for the disturbances among the alliance and pinning hopes on the Municipal polls and seat-sharing to gain any advantage out of the TDP-Janasena infighting if at all any.
