Saikhom Mirabai Chanu managed to grab a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s 49 kg category and became the second Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal. Her success inspired the entire country and a film is being made on her life now.
The film will be primarily made in Manipuri and will be dubbed into English, Hindi, and other Indian languages. An agreement about making the film on Mirabai’s life has been made.
Imphal-based Seuti Films Production made an agreement with Mirabai’s family at her residence in Nongpok Kakching village in Imphal East district. Manaobi M M, the production company’s chairperson has confirmed the same.
Manaobi MM will write the film and it will be directed by OC Meira. RK Nalini Devi is on board as the producer.
The film unit is currently looking out for a girl who can essay the role of Mirabai Chanu. They are looking for someone who can match her age, height, physique, and have some resemblance to her looks.
The makers are planning to begin the shoot next year.
