South Indian International Movie Awards aka SIIMA Awards has unveiled its press release on its 2019 nominations. The prominent entertainment awards, SIIMA celebrate the artistic and technical achievements of the South Indian film industry.
Maharshi (Telugu), Asuram (Tamil), Yajamana (Kannada), and Kumbalangi Nights (Tamil) are leading the SIIMA Nominations for 2019 in the most popular categories. In Telugu, we have Vamsi Paidipally directorial, Maharshi leading with 10 nominations, Majili with 9 nominations, and Jersey with 7 nominations. Soon after the nominations are out, Telugu cinephiles expressed their opinion on how Jersey deserves amongst all, and also, Allu Arjun starrer AVPL goes missing on the list.
In Tamil, Asuran is leading with 10 nominations and Kaithi with 8 nominations. In Kannada, Yajamana with 12 nominations and Avane Srimannaarayana with 9 nominations are leading. And, in Malayalam, everyone’s favorite Kumbalangi nights is leading with 13 nominations.
The chairperson of SIIMA, Brinda Prasad said that 2019 has been a benchmark year with movies such as Maharshi, Kumbalangi Nights, Asuran, Majili, Jersey, Yajamana, and Lucifer. These commercially successful films garnered national recognition as well. Due to the pandemic, the last year’s ceremony has been canceled and the chairperson is hopeful SIIMA Awards would be held for the first time in India this September.
Earlier, the awards were hosted in several foreign ventures such as Dubai, Qatar, Malaysia, Sharjah, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi. For this year, the winners will be announced by the online voting system.
