OTT platforms have become the major source of entertainment for the last couple of years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, the subscriber base of streaming platforms has increased substantially in the last one and a half years.
According to the latest report, Disney+Hotstar remains the most subscribed OTT platform in India. As Hotstar offers films, web series, TV shows, and live sports coverage, the user base is high. This Star-owned streaming platform has over 2.5 crore subscribers in India.
Amazon Prime Video is in the second position with 1.7 crore subscribers. Minimal subscription fees and a large base of Indian content helped Prime Video to get many subscriptions. Sony Liv is in the third position with 70 lakh subscribers.
Global streaming giant Netflix has only over 46 lakh subscribers in India. Zee5 is in the fifth position with over 40 lakh subscribers.
Meanwhile, Netflix is all set to overtake Hotstar in terms of revenue due to its high subscription rates. As the subscriber base is increasing every day, platforms are coming up with new content very often. Thus, there can be a significant change in the subscription numbers every year.
