The most popular reality show in the Telugu television arena, Bigg Boss came up with its fifth season last week. The launch episode was premiered on September 5. King Nagarjuna returned as the host, after his stint in the third and fourth seasons.
Every year, there will be a huge buzz around the launch episode’s TRP ratings of Bigg Boss. The excitement was the same this year as well. Finally, the ratings were out today.
According to the reports, Bigg Boss 5’s launch episode generated a TRP of 15.70. These are highly impressive numbers considering all other competitors. In fact, NTR Jr.’s show Evaru Meelo Koteeswarulu managed to get 11.4 ratings with its curtain-raiser episode.
But we can’t compare Bigg Boss with other shows due to its format and popularity. The only competitor for Bigg Boss is Bigg Boss itself. If we take the ratings of the earlier seasons into consideration, the number has dropped this year.
Bigg Boss season 4 generated the highest TRP in the history of the show with 18.5 ratings of its launch episode. After such a huge leap, everyone expected more numbers this year but that didn’t happen. Though Bigg Boss 5 registered good ratings, it couldn’t surpass the previous season.
The launch episode of the first season, which was hosted by Jr. NTR, generated a massive rating of 16.18 in 2016. The premiere of Bigg Boss 2, hosted by Nani, got a rating of 15.05. Season 3 and season 4, hosted by Nag, achieved ratings of 17.9 and 18.5 respectively. It has to be seen how the ratings will progress from next week, as the Indian Premier League (IPL) starts this Sunday.
