Opinion: Why Are we Failing To Show Empathy In Samantha’s Case?

Published by

Samantha and Naga Chaitanya’s divorce is undoubtedly one of the most shocking split-ups ever. Both have realized that their relationship with each other wasn’t meant to be and have decided to move on.

However, Samantha’s emotional Instagram posts today on how people are spreading rumours, intentionally or unintentionally aimed to hurt her, is indeed sad. She is on the receiving end of untrue gossips, thus, leaving people including her fans to trust what they see in their social media feed than what they get from more credible news sources.

Her recent quote – “If matters are constantly morally questionable when done by women, but not even morally questioned when done by men – then we, as a society, fundamentally have no morals” make many of us realize that we are not using our imagination to consider a situation from a multitude of viewpoints. Some ugly rumours on the actress were so intense that it became far from brushing off. And, despite her grief, she speaks out on the public domain courageously.

“They say I had affair, never wanted children, that I am an opportunist and now that I have had abortions. Divorce itself is a painful thing let alone the healing time. This attack on me personally has been relentless. But I’m promising you, this or any attack will not break me” – She wrote. Celebrities usually build thicker skin by ignoring rumours. But what if the rumour tarnishes self-esteem? And grows in an alarming way with imaginary additions?

In conclusion, it is a sad reflection of human behaviour where people think that it is free for all to give someone so much crap simply because the person is famous. But let us understand that divorce happens but that doesn’t mean one of the spouses is mean-spirited or wrong. Things can go wrong, not people!
