Drugs Scandal: Big Relief To Tollywood

In a big breather to the Tollywood industry, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is likely to shut down the sensational drug scandal case. In 2017, the drug scandal hit the industry with the Telangana Prohibition and Excise department arresting drug peddler Calvin and seized banned substance from him.

In the investigation Calvin reportedly informed the Excise department that he was to supply drugs to many Tollywood celebrities. Based on the information provided by Calvin, the Excise officials summoned many Tollywood celebrities and questioned them. The likes of director Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur, Ravi Teja, Tarun, Tanish and a few more names were allegedly revealed by drug peddler Calvin.

Earlier in September the ED stepped into this case with a suspect of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and Money Laundering angle. The ED too probed 12 celebrities including Rana Daggubati, Rakul Preet Singh, Navdeep and even collected their samples such as nails, hair for drugs test.

But this case has taken a sudden u-turn. The Excise department and ED did not find any conclusive evidence related to the drugs scandal. Having exhausted all the options, the ED has decided to close this case. The ED officials are said to be working on the legal process to close the case.

However, the Telangana Excise department is yet to take any action. But with the ED wrapping up the case, the TS Excise department is likely to follow the path.

On this drugs scandal, Tollywood celebs who were probed by the agencies denied their involvement and now this is a huge relief for them.
