SS Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus RRR was originally slated for release on January 7. However, the third wave of the pandemic forced the makers to push the release date. Last night, it was officially announced that the film will hit the screens either on March 18th or April 29th.
“If the pandemic situation in the country gets better and all the theatres open up to operate at full capacity, we are ready to release the film on 18th March 2022. Otherwise, RRR movie will release on 28th April 2022,” stated the movie’s team the other day.
If at all RRR releases on March 18th, it may face a tough time in the state of Karnataka. It was already announced that Kannada star Puneeth Rajkumar’s last film James will hit the screens on March 17. Most of the theatres in the state will be screening James, as a tribute to the actor.
Thus, RRR will have a setback with the allocation of fewer screens. Moreover, there are no chances of James being pushed to another release date because 17th March happens to be the birth anniversary of Puneeth. Releasing the film on that day will be a perfect tribute for him.
Apart from James, RRR will also face competition in the form of Akshay Kumar’s Bachchan Pandey if it releases on March 18. So, it may not get as many screens as expected in North India as well.
So, it has to be seen how RRR makers deal with this issue. Meanwhile, this action drama features Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles.
