The Raptadu school violence has shaken the whole country. The Telugu community across the globe was taken aback by this gruesome incident. A 10th-class girl was brutally attacked with an electric chainsaw in broad daylight at an AP government school by her relative, a 21-year-old man.
However, several netizens have started blaming violent films, and many have started blaming Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. A scene in Animal where the protagonist, also a student, enters his sister’s college classroom with a rifle to warn the eve-teasers has become the subject of discussion. Some opine that scenes like this are influencing youth to resort to violence in the educational institutions.
Amid all such discussions about violence in films, director Ram Gopal Varma has responded. He has outrightly rejected the claim that violence in films is the reason behind the growing violence in schools, colleges and society. RGV wrote on X, “Blaming films for rise in violence is like blaming Ramayana for rise in kidnappings.”
This Ramayana analogy of RGV isn’t really connecting with many. However, RGV is trying to say that violent films can’t be the reason for real-life violence.
