RRR Hindi BO: Second Best Opener After Covid

SS Rajamouli’s much awaited RRR has finally hit the theatres today. The period revenge drama laced with action and emotion is released with massive expectations as the director’s previous films Baahubali had set BO on fire. Unlike Baahubali, RRR (Hindi) has opened to a decent start. While the film’s opening was good at some places in the Hindi belt, there was a lukewarm response in other centers.

Still, RRR (Hindi) happens to be the second best opener in the Hindi post Covid-19 pandemic. It is only next to Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi (2021). RRR Hindi is the highest opener in Hindi in 2022 though. RRR (Hindi) has beaten the likes of Bachchan Pandey and 83.

RRR opened to a good start in Mumbai city and Thane belt. It got poor response in Delhi NCR, East Punjab and Kolkata. The single screens in Nagpur were almost full which is a good sign. But the multiplexes were still lacking the buzz. The exorbitant ticket prices are also cited as one of the reasons which may be holding back the crowds. The recurrent delay in the film’s release also seems to have taken away the interest of sections of the public in the Hindi belt.

On the whole, RRR got a good start in Maharashtra and Gujarat. But in North, RRR Hindi is clearly lagging behind. Trade is predicting RRR Hindi to open at Rs 15 Crore Nett on Day 1. This is still decent. But the revenues of the coming days depend on the crucial word of mouth of the audience.

In Telugu states, RRR opened to record-breaking numbers. Even the US premieres clocked in over 2.5 million USD which is phenomenal. Down the South, RRR looks to be safe. But in Hindi, it is going to be a challenging one for Rajamouli and the team.
