Amid low buzz and expectations, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Acharya had hit the screens the other day. This is probably the only star hero film that was released with very low expectations in the recent past. Directed by Koratala Siva, this film featured Ram Charan in a crucial role.
Acharya has been getting below-par reviews from both critics and audiences since morning. It looks like Chiranjeevi has bagged a flop with this venture.
Meanwhile, there are heavy similarities between this film and Koratala’s 2015 film Srimanthudu. In the latter, Mahesh Babu comes to a village. He has roots in that village through his father. By the time, he comes there, the villagers will be leaving the village. He stops them and gives a solution to their problems.
Coming to Acharya, Chiranjeevi is an outsider who comes to a town named Dharmasthali. He shares a connection with that place through Ram Charan. By the time he arrives there, the residents are leaving the town. He stops them and solves all their problems.
On a skeleton level, the storyline of both films is the same. But the formula worked in Srimanthudu and flopped in Acharya.
Slow narration, weak characterizations, and under-utilization of Chiranjeevi and Charan made Acharya a middling affair.v
