A Horror Multiverse Of Chandramukhi & Kanchana?

Chandramukhi was a sensation in 2005. The movie turned out as a blockbuster and it was kind of first in a horror genre with a superstar hero leading the story. Though the original was from Malayalam and Kannada versions, the director P Vasu adaptated it in Rajini style. Now, as a latest update, a sequel is coming from the director and it is Chandramukhi 2.

Dance choreographer cum director and actor Lawrence is acting in Chandramukhi 2, while Lyca production house is putting monies in it. The original director P Vasu is directing it.

There are a lot of confusing points here. We are aware of the sequel that was already made in the name of Nagavalli starring Venkatesh and Anushka in it in 2010, and it was a disaster then. It was from its Kannada origin Aptharakshaka in which Vishnuvardhan acted. When the same idea was brought to Rajinikanth, the superstar pushed it away after seeing Nagavalli’s result.

After all these years, the director P Vasu convinced Lawrence for Chandramukhi 2 in Tamil. Though it may not be the story of Nagavalli, it is sure a film in horror genre. Even if it an improvised version of Nagavalli, the core concept of it is not a viable one in the present time. With a lot of horror and thriller genre films visiting audiences every now then, the odds of Chandramukhi gaining special weightage are bleak.

Also the director P Vasu is not in a great form, but it is Lawrence that can turn the spotlight on this movie taking his expertise in comedy-horror genre with his Kanchana franchise. Wonder why Lawrence stepped out from his own thriller franchise to act in Chandramukhi 2. Is he going to merge it to make a horror multiverse?
