AP BJP Somu Veerraju commented in an insensitive manner on Polavaram project construction that the government of India doesn’t owe anything. “We are ready for a debate on Polavaram but as of now, the Centre is not debted to the project,” said Somu.
The BJP leader alleged that both TDP and YSRCP stooped down for Polavaram just for the sake of commissions. “If the construction of Polavaram had been taken up by the government of India, the project would have been completed by now and excess water would be diverted to Rayalaseema region which is hit by drought,” quoted Somu. On declaration of crop holiday in Amalapuram district, the BJP chief found fault with the YCP government.
Somu’s comments on Polavaram are uninvited and totally unnecessary. In June first week AP CM YS Jagan met PM Modi and he discussed in detail about Polavaram with the PM. Jagan also requested the PM to approve the revised budget estimates of Polavaram construction. Rs 55,548.87 crore was a revised estimation quoted by Jagan.
The government of India is still dodging on approving the latest budget figures for Polavaram construction. It’s a national project and so the government of India has to fund until its completion.
