17 Years of Johnny: Pawan’s disaster debut

Post ‘Kushi’ Powerstar Pawan Kalyan received a huge stardom. Many in the industry reckoned him as next to Megastar Chiranjeevi and so naturally many directors were willing to work with him then. But Pawan made a strange choice to become a director.

No actor would ever dare to attempt to direct his own film despite being a star but Pawan did. And that’s how ‘Johnny’ materialized. Today i.e, April 25th marks 17 years of the theatrical release of ‘Johnny.’

However, the film did not work at the box office and ended up as a disaster. Fans of Pawan too were disappointed with such a dull film while critics reviewed that the film had weak narration which was the biggest let down.

Nevertheless, Pawan set another trend with this film by coming up with merchandise of ‘Johnny’ which was new in Tollywood back then.

Marking the release anniversary of this film, Geetha Arts banner’s Twitter handle shared their moment and in no time, ’17 Years of Johnny’ started trending on social media.
