Shockingly Low TRP For ‘Ante Sundaraniki’ Says Something

Any big film that is being screened on popular Telugu entertainment channels usually get a TRP of somewhere between 15-20.

While Ala Vaikuntapurramlo holds a record after registering a record 29 TRP on its first premiere on television, recently many big films are getting only low TRPs. The shock of them all is that Nani’s latest film “Ante Sundaraniki” has registered a TRP of 1.8, which is pretty shocker by all standards.

For the record, “Ante Sundaraniki” is not a bad film though it has its ups and downs. However, the film’s 1.8 TRP is an indicator that regular Telugu audiences are actually moving away from satellite channels to satiate their thirst for entertainment.

Already the film got released on Netflix and most of the audience who didn’t care to watch the film in theatres might have watched it on the OTT streaming platform. That’s the biggest shocker for the satellite channels now as releasing a film well in advance on OTT is not going to give them TRPs anymore.

And the second fact is that many audiences of the new age are moving away from using cable TV and dishes. They are just buying smart TVs and smartphones where they would get most of the content for free on YouTube.

And then, they get a subscription to a popular OTT platform just at the expense of two months of what they would pay for cable TV. That is resulting in more audiences using smart devices with YouTube, Prime Video, Hotstar and Netflix where they can watch the film uninterrupted anytime and anywhere. Looks like the death of satellite TV is on the cards very soon.
