It’s been a long time actually Tollywood has seen a lady Superstar. Back in the day, we have Vijayashanti was honoured with the title of “Lady Superstar” as her solo heroine and female-centric movies did fantastically at the box office. When Megastar Chiru is taking home ₹1.25 crores home as a paycheck in the 90s, which is more than Amitabh Bachhan, Vijayashanti is said to have demanded ₹1 crore as the leading lady.
Cut to the now, the paychecks of heroines and heroes are quite different now, but then, box office numbers are what matters now. And right now Samantha Ruth Prabhu is coming up with the film “Yashodha”, and in a twist of the tale, she hasn’t even promoted the film due to her illness. Even though the film wasn’t promoted on a big scale, and Samantha was totally absent in the media except for releasing a couple of interviews, already the cutout craze and the advance bookings for Yashodha are too good if we have to say. And the only thing is that Samantha should bring more than ₹15-20 crores gross from the first weekend, which then proves that she is a massive star.
If at all, Samantha brings huge numbers from the box office surely she will be the true Lady Superstar of the present Tollywood because no other heroine has done such a feat. Earlier, Samantha’s “Oh Baby” collected nearly ₹13 crores gross in the first weekend. Let’s see where would Samantha stands and if she will become that real big superstar or not. Also, the content of the film matter for this to happen.
