Thank God, I’m Not Tarak’s Mom: Shriya Saran

Shriya Saran, who enthralled audiences cutting across borders and languages, was caught up for an exclusive conversation with us in Mumbai. Her latest release Dhrishyam 2 has got rave reception and critical acclaim. Shriya shared her opinions on South films, stars she worked with. She talked about whom she would love to share screen space. Shriya talked about working in RRR where she played Ram Charan’s mother. Obviously, she wasn’t aware of her role when Rajamouli approached her at first. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

“I didn’t know I was going to play Ram Charan’s mother. Thank God, I’m not Tarak’s mom. Because, I had shot for a steamy song with him before,” shared ravishing and talented Shriya Saran when she was asked about her role in RRR. Shriya defended her role and said technically she didn’t play mother to Charan as well as she gets killed in the film before Charan’s entry.

Shriya talked about getting inspired from legendary ANR on the sets of Manam. After he was diagnosed with cancer and he returned to sets, Shriya said the people on the sets gave him so much attention. Shriya said ANR’s words back then had struck her heart and stayed with her since then. She said, “ANR said he would rather die on a film set shooting rather than die in a boring hospital.” Shriya said these words remain as her inspiration.

Talking about Samantha and her recent diagnosis of myositis, Shriya said, “Let’s dedicate this segment for her bravery rather than her misery. I know the girl. She is such a strong girl. There’s so much to learn from her. Every time I think of her, my heart is filled with respect and love. She will punch back sadness and comeback sooner.”

Shriya recalled working with Prabhas and Rajamouli during Chatrapathi. She said Prabhas was a superstar back then itself. She said she hasn’t seen any change in Prabhas even now after super stardom with Baahubali. Shriya said whenever she meets Prabhas he is like “Prabhas is the same. Even if we meet now, he says Hi Darling, what’s up? Darling, how are you? He’s just sweetheart. Nothing has changed in him.” She said she is grateful to SS Rajamouli.

“I’m very grateful to people who all I’ve worked with. I’ve learnt so much. The lessons I learnt in my life are those I learnt while doing cinema,” said Shriya.

Shriya said she is friends with all the actors she had worked with. She said though she don’t talk to them on daily basis or meet regularly, she said she would get a proper warm hug when she meets them. Shriya said she hadn’t worked with Allu Arjun, Surya, Dulquer Salmaan, Kamal Haasan. She said she would like to work with all of them. Watch the complete interview in Gulte YouTube channel.
