Megastar Chiranjeevi’s new film Waltair Veerayya was released a couple of days ago and garnered a mixed response from the audience. Though the film followed a typical commercial cinema template, Chiru and Ravi Teja’s performance made the movie a watchable outing.
The success meet of Waltair Veerayya was held the other day. Speaking at the event, Chiranjeevi said that director Bobby Kolli made the film so well and added that this film should be considered as a “case study” by young filmmakers.
This particular statement of Chiru is an exaggerated one. In his enthusiasm for the success, he went overboard and said that the film should be taken as a case study. In fact, there is no need to consider this film as a case study. It is another mass commercial film made with a routine formula.
To be honest, Waltair Veerayya is not a great film. If there is no Chiranjeevi, the film would have become a flop for sure.
When all other industries are embracing new-age content, Chiru should also encourage young filmmakers to come up with such stories just like how Lokesh Kanagaraj, Karthik Subbaraj, and others are emerging. Chiranjeevi should also accept those stories instead of praising films like Waltair Veerayya, which just run using his stardom.
Any film should be taken up for a case study only when there is strong content with universal appeal and only when it runs successfully without a hero’s stardom.
