Indian Origin Man Gets 5 Years In US For ₹258 Crore Tax Fraud

An Indian origin man in the US has landed in serious trouble after being sentenced to five years in prison for running a major tax fraud scheme. Texas based Aanand Shukla was sentenced to 60 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States.

According to prosecutors, Shukla and his associates helped clients hide more than $27 million ( 258 crore ) in income from the US government. The scheme reportedly targeted business owners across the country and was active between 2017 and 2025.

The group promoted a trust based arrangement that was presented as a way for business owners to keep control of their money while avoiding taxes. Clients reportedly paid tens of thousands of dollars for these arrangements, with some fees going as high as $225,000.

Shukla was also accused of helping clients route most of their business income through trusts and a private family foundation. Prosecutors said some participants were then advised to use those funds for personal expenses while treating them as tax deductions.

The case has now ended with a five year prison sentence for Shukla. The latest development once again highlights how seriously US authorities are pursuing large scale tax fraud and schemes designed to hide income from the government.
