Legendary Director K Viswanath Passes Away

Veteran filmmaker Kasinadhuni Viswanath, popular as K Viswanath, passed away. He was 92-year-old. He died of prolonged age-related illness. His demise has shocked the Telugu film fraternity.

K Viswanath was born on 19th February, 1930 in Guntur district’s Repalle. He started his career as an assistant director for the film Pathala Bhairavi in 1951. He made his directorial debut with Aatma Gouravam in 1965 that won Nandi Award Best Feature Film for the same year. The artistic touch in his craft first came visible with Siri Siri Muvva (1976). Sankrabharanam released in 1980 is an all-time classic in Telugu. It won 4 National Awards and 7 Nandi Awards. Swathi Muthyam (1986), Sirivennela (1986) are the two other films with his artistic touch.

K Viswanath’s films largely dealt with social issues. Saptapadi, Sirivennela, Sutradharulu, Subhalekha, Sruthilayalu, Subha Sankalpam, Aapadbandhavudu, Swayam Krushi, and Swarnakamalam have lead characters representing various class of society, meticulously etched to suit the larger picture.

Viswanath has also directed Hindi films Viswanath has also directed Hindi language films such as Sargam (1979), Kaamchor(1982), Shubh Kaamna(1983), Jaag Utha Insan (1984), Sur Sangam (1985), Sanjog (1985), Eeshwar (1989),Sangeet (1992) and Dhanwan (1993). Some of these films with Jayaprada were super hits at the Box Office.
