Already the music band “Thaikudam Bridge” is contesting a copyright case against the makers of Kantara, alleging that the song Varaha Roopam is a direct lift of their Navarasa song. But then, the TV channel that first aired the Navarasa song in Kerala filed a complaint against Superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran regarding this song. Wonder why?
Actually, Prithviraj owns a distribution company too, and that company has released the film Kantara all throughout Kerala. The parent company that owns the TV channel has filed a complaint against Prithviraj for infringing copyrights. But then the Superstar actor and director clarified to the Court that he is just a distributor, but not a producer who is involved with making the movie or producing that music. And that led to the Kozhikode Court staying the petition against him.
Meanwhile, while Kerala High Court gave a fresh judgement a week ago that hero-director Rishabh Shetty and producer Vijay Kirangadur should not exhibit their film Kantara with Varaha Roopam song, Supreme Court has released stayed that decision. At the same time, while Rishabh and Vijay appeared before Kozhikode police station for interrogation, SC passed a judgement that they would be released immediately even if arrested.
These are developments in the last two weeks regarding the Varaha Roopam copyright infringement case.
