BAFTA: RRR snubbed; Indian fans furious

Considered as the equivalent of Oscar, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards ceremony was held on Sunday night. The Royal Festival Hall in London hosted the 76th edition of the awards ceremony and it was a star studded event.

But the BAFTA winners list left Indian fans furious as the magnum opus ‘RRR’ which made waves across the globe, did not impress the jury at BAFTA. Forget the awards, ‘RRR’ could not get even nominations and that was really shocking.

German language film, ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ walked away with the Best Picture award (Foreign Language) and in fact this film swept BAFTA with seven awards. The only Indian film that received a nomination is ‘All That Breathes, directed by Shaunak Sen in the Documentary category.

‘RRR’ getting snubbed at BAFTA was a big shock for the Indian fans and they took to social media and slammed the jury for ignoring an epic like ‘RRR.’ Some netizens wrote that Oscar and Golden Globe have recognized ‘RRR’ but BAFTA still holds a grudge against the Indians and Indian films.

Nevertheless, ‘RRR’ still remains one of the best Indian films to get world audience’s attention and it received laurels from the likes of Hollywood legendary directors.
