Bollywood’s woes continue even after the theatrical market opened in a full-fledged manner. The lack of good content is the major reason behind Bollywood’s downfall. The first quarter of 2023 was also a disappointment because only one film proved successful at the box office.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan is the only super hit in Bollywood so far this year. This action thriller collected more than 1000 crores at the box office. It was a perfect comeback by SRK. Pathaan was the only big release in January.
In February, B-Town witnessed two big releases: Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada and Akshay Kumar-Emraan Hashmi’s Selfiee. Both movies are remakes of South Indians flicks and ended up being disasters at the box office.
In March, Ranbir Kapoor came up with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar. This romantic comedy had a great start, but mixed reviews made the film an average venture. Last week, Ajay Devgn came up with his ambitious project Bholaa. This movie was made on a humongous budget and was released in 3D. Considering the business involved, it is underperforming at the box office.
Overall, only Pathaan proves to be the big winner in the first three months. We have to see if Bollywood’s fate changes in the coming days.
