Cinema and cricket have always been two popular forms of entertainment for people. However, with the start of the IPL season, many moviegoers have been tuning into their televisions to catch the latest matches, leading to a decline in occupancy rates for evening shows.
Even the weekend collections, which are typically high, have been affected by IPL matches starting in the afternoons. This has been particularly challenging for movies like ‘Ravanasura’ and ‘Meter’, which struggled to attract audiences during their initial days.
Even the recently released ‘Dasara’, which received a good response from audiences, has been impacted by the IPL season. Unfortunately, it’s not just the struggling movies that are suffering; upcoming releases such as Samantha’s ‘Shankuntalam’ and Akhil’s ‘Agent’ may also face a similar fate. This is especially concerning for high-budget films that rely heavily on box office collections for success.
This is not the first time that a situation like this has taken place but given the current scenario where a lot of Telugu films are performing well, the IPL tournament is really showing its impact.
It’s been just ten days since the tournament started and we have to see if the situation continues to prevail even for the upcoming releases. Stay tuned!
