Adipurush : Tollywood Actors Who Played Lord Rama

The Indian film industry is caught up with the Adipurush fever. Based on the mythological epic Ramayana, this movie features Prabhas in the role of Lord Rama. Om Raut has directed the project. Before Prabhas, we have seen multiple heroes essaying Ram’s character in Telugu cinema. Here is a look at them.

Y. Suryanarayana:
Yadavalli Suryanarayana is the first Telugu hero to don Lord Rama’s role in films. He played Rama in the 1932 film Paadukaa Pattabhishekam.

CSR Anjaneyulu:
In 1945, another film was released with the same title (Paaduka Pattabhishekam). CSR Anjaneyulu played the role of Rama in it.

Akkineni Nageshwara Rao:
Legendary actor ANR played the role of Rama in the 1944 release Sri Rama Jananam. It also happens to be his first film as a lead hero. It was also the first film for the music director Gantasala.

Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao:
Iconic actor NTR played the role of Rama in multiple films like Sampoorna Ramayanam, Lava Kusa, Rama Dasu, Ramanjaneya Yuddham, and Sri Rama Pattabhishekam. NTR is the synonym of Rama and Krishna for Telugu folks. Such was the impact he created in these roles.

Haranath:
Haranath played Lord Rama’s role in the 1961 release of Seetha Rama Kalyanam and the 1968 release of Sri Rama Katha.

Shoban Babu:
Another legendary actor Shoban Babu played the role of Rama in the 1971 film Sampoorna Ramayanam, directed by Bapu.

Kantha Rao:
Kantha Rao was seen as Lord Rama in the 1968 film Veeranjaneya.

Ravi Kumar:
Ravi Kumar was seen as Rama in the 1976 film Seetha Kalyanam, directed by Bapu.

Jr NTR:
Jr NTR essayed Lord Rama’s role in the film Bala Ramayanam, which was directed by Gunasekhar. It was released in 1997.

Srikanth:
Srikanth briefly appeared as Lord Rama in the super hit film Devullu, directed by Kodi Ramakrishna.

Suman:
Suman essayed the character of Lord Rama in the 2006 film Sri Rama Dasu. Nagarjuna played the titular role in this Raghavendra Rao directorial film.

Balakrishna:
Nandamuri Balakrishna was seen as Sri Rama in the 2011 film Sri Rama Rajyam, directed by Bapu. Nayanthara played the female lead in it.

After all these heroes, Prabhas is now essaying the role of Lord Rama in Adipurush. High expectations are riding on this movie. We have to see if Prabhas can become the replica of Lord Rama for the present generation, just like how NTR was for the previous generation.
