Amazon CEO Questions On ₹2,000 cr Priyanka’s Flop Series

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is questioning the high costs of certain shows, including the poorly received series Citadel starring Priyanka Chopra. The show reportedly cost Amazon $250 million (Rs 2000 Crs) to produce but failed to make a significant impact. Jassy has requested a budget analysis for Amazon’s underperforming shows as the company prepares to lay off employees and reassess projects.

Other shows, such as Daisy Jones & the Six, The Power, Dead Ringers, and The Peripheral, each costing $100 million, also struggled to attract viewers.

Even the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series, costing $400 million, faced audience retention challenges. Citadel underwent a major creative overhaul, incurring an additional $80 million in expenses.

Amazon’s spending strategy, including first-look deals with major talents, has not yielded desired results.

Jassy’s inquiry aims to address concerns over significant investments in underperforming shows. The company seeks to streamline operations and optimize content offerings amid cost-cutting measures.
