Who Is The Option After Thaman & DSP?

Apparently, the discussion of lots of Tamil and Malayalam composers including Anirudh, Yuvan Shankar Raja, GV Prakash, Gopisundar, Abdul Hesham Wahab and others taking over the Telugu cinema music scenario has caught up like wildfire in Tollywood. But then, that brings us to the moot question, why is this happening in the first place?

To be very honest, Tollywood right now has only two star composers, they are none other than Thaman and Devi Sri Prasad. While both charge anywhere between ₹3-4 crores, they make sure at least one song in the total album will go viral on the internet, while their riveting background score will anyway lift the film to a new high. If we put these two aside, who else is there in Telugu to be entrusted with the job of composing music for our Tier-1 and Tier-2 star heroes?

Of course, there are talents like Kala Bhairava, Mahati Swara Sagar, Anup Rubens, Vivek Sagar, Mickey J Meyer and others, but these composers are quite unpredictable. Either they will score blockbuster songs for a film, or some of their other albums turns out to be duds.

As there is a lack of consistency in the chartbuster success of these composers, Tollywood is looking at fresh options from other states. And there is another set of composers who charge below ₹10 lakhs, but never they created any big dance number for any big hero, so it will be tough for these folks to come out of their current league and break into a big club.

At the same time, this brand new brigade is said to be demanding a cool crore in case one of their films works, and for half of that amount, Telugu producers can bring Tamil and Malayali counterparts now. That’s also a reason why there are no composers left in the charts which are being topped by DSP and Thaman.
