When the films SRK’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar are clashing, no South media folks or trade pundits took sides, but few Bollywood pundits started writing down the mighty action film coming from Tollywood. And they have predicted that Salaar might start big, but will clash later, while Dunki will start slow but will have longevity at the box office. Guess what, the reverse of this is happening right now.
Prashanth Neel’s terrific action sequences and drama, coupled with the superstar power of Prabhas have outshined everyone and everything at the box office for Salaar; and this statement won’t need any proof as the film’s collection is testimony to that.
However, few Bollywood pundits predicted that Salaar will crash from the first Monday, and Dunki will rise. However nothing much happened, and shockingly Dunki is unable to get numbers despite occupying 60% of screens in Hindi hinterlands, while Salaar collection is beating Dunki by miles though it is present only in 30% of the multiplexes.
Neither Shahrukh Khan’s star power nor the usual trust in director Rajkumar Hirani has saved Dunki. If we take Tuesday alone, Salaar has sold nearly 8.4 lacs tickets at National chains and collected ₹17.59 crores nett from multiplexes alone.
At the same time, Dunki registered ₹8.9+ crores nett with 3.8 lacs tickets sold. This explains the kind of reception Prabhas is getting with limited screens and how Dunki is underperforming. Time for the so-called Bollywood critics to open up and see the realistic reports now.
