Ramoji Film City. Spread over 2000 acres, this studio/theme park attracts more than 1.5 million visitors in a year. More than 2500 movies have been shot in this film city to date. RFC’s achievements have earned it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest integrated film city. Media baron Ramoji Rao, who wanted to build a studio in the style of Hollywood, constructed it in 1996. The Guardian newspaper once described Ramoji Film City as “a city within a city.”
Movies across industries ranging from Tollywood to Bollywood and Hollywood have been filmed in the premises of RFC. Baahubali, Baahubali 2, Chennai Express, Krrish, and Dirty Picture are some notable examples of the same.
The film city was constructed by art director Nitish Roy, keeping in mind the forests and mountainous terrains around the Abdullahpurmet area the studio is located in. This film city includes multiple sets replicating forests, gardens, hotels, a railway station, an airport, apartment blocks, buildings, and workshops.
The film city houses 6 hotels, 47 sound stages, and permanent structures like railway stations and temples. It employs approximately 1,200 staff members and has around 8,000 agents. Vintage buses and AC coaches are available for travel within Ramoji Film City.
Additionally, it was Ramoji Rao who made it possible to establish TV channels of major Indian languages like Hindi, Telugu, Urdu, Kannada, Gujarati, and Bengali in the RFC premises.
