In the face of criticism over the age of Kamal Haasan’s character in the upcoming film Bharateeyudu 2, director Shankar has provided a logical explanation to justify the veteran actor’s ability to perform high-octane stunts.
The theatrical trailer of Bharateeyudu 2, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Bharateeyudu, has sparked a debate among audiences regarding the possibility of a 106-year-old Senapathy character taking on baddies and engaging in risky action sequences.
However, during the trailer launch event in Mumbai, Shankar and Kamal Haasan addressed these concerns head-on. Kamal Haasan asserted that the character’s age is at the director’s discretion, stating, “I would like to act even when I am 120.”
Shankar, in turn, cited the example of a 120-year-old martial arts master in China, Luci Geon, who is still capable of performing advanced techniques.
The director explained that Senapathy’s mastery of the ancient martial art Varma Kalai, coupled with his disciplined lifestyle of yoga, meditation, and a restricted diet, allows him to defy the limitations of age. “If you are a master in your craft and have discipline, age doesn’t matter. You can perform any kind of stunt,” Shankar said, in his defense.
As the film is set for a July 12 release, let’s see if the acts of Kamal and talks of Shankar would be convincing or not.
