Actor Suriya is currently busy promoting his pan-India film Kanguva across the country. Though it is his first pan-India film, Suriya needs no introduction to the North Indian audiences. Many of his films were remade into Hindi. However, Suriya credits his popularity in North India to Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan.
In an interview, Suriya said that Aamir spoke about him and the original Ghajini so many times while promoting Hindi version of the film and made Suriya popular in the North. He said, “I would actually go back and thank Aamir Khan sir because usually when a remake film is done, the original actor, the cast or the director were not usually discussed in front of the media. But for the first time, I think, Aamir sir made sure that he spoke about the film and all the actors and the director. “
“And of course, I loved what he did in the Hindi version. Even before anybody could speak about me, he was solely responsible for people up North India, people who didn’t speak Tamil, to know about me. He repeatedly kept taking my name and he introduced me to the rest of the audience,” he stated.
Suriya went on to add, “A lot of other films are close to my heart but I would say Ghajini was a wonderful experience where the borders were raised, language was raised and people really got to know me.” Apart from Ghajini, Suriya’s other films like Khaakha Khaakha (Force), Singham (Singham) and Soorarai Pottru (Sarfira) were remade in Hindi.
