Suriya’s last theatrical release as a lead hero, Etharkkum Thunindhavan(ET) was released in March 2022 & bombed at the Box Office. After two years and eight months, he is now coming up with his next theatrical release, Kanguva, an epic action & fantasy film on 14th November. Souryam & Siruthai fame, Siva, directed the film on a huge scale.
Suriya, Siva and the team toured the country extensively over the last few weeks to promote the film. Especially in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, the team did multiple events and promoted the film extensively.
Going by the initial bookings trend, it looks like the team’s aggressive promotions in both Telugu states are working out. Bookings for the early morning shows(i.e. 08:00 AM) on day one in Vizag, Vijayawada, Guntur and Hyderabad look very encouraging with very good occupancies already. Full-fledged bookings in Hyderabad city will be opened tomorrow and the bookings for all the shows throughout day one are expected to trend well similar to early morning shows.
The film’s Hindi version is releasing in multiplexes across the country. So, as per the current rule to release to Hindi version in multiplexes across the country, the film will not be released on any digital/OTT platform for at least eight weeks from 14th November. Kanguva is the only crazy Tamil film in the last few years that opted for an eight-week theatrical window to accommodate the Hindi version release in multiplexes.
Suriya’s goodwill among audiences across the country, audience appetite for well-made event films in the recent past and the extensive promotions done by the team are expected to work out in the favour of the film at the Box Office not just in Tamil & Telugu but in Hindo as well if it manages to get good word of mouth.
