One Film 5 Oscars – Anora Sweeps Major Awards

Sean Baker’s American romantic comedy film Anora had a dream time at the 97th Academy Awards. Out of the six nominations received at the Oscars, the film won five and became the most successful film at the event this year. It won all major awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Film Editing and Best Original Screenplay. It got nominated for Best Supporting Actor but failed to win the award.

Director Sean Baker himself won the Oscar awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing. Actress Mikey Madison won the Best Actress Award. Alex Coco, Samantha Quan and Sean Baker together received the award for Best Picture. Notably, Anora also won the prestigious Palm O’Dor Award at Cannes last year. Sean Baker started off his filmmaking career with the 2015 film Tangerine, which was shot on an iPhone.

Now, he made one of the most successful films at the Oscars. That makes him a true inspiration for the upcoming filmmakers who complain about big budgets and fancy cameras to shoot their films.
