Dubbing Films On The Rise In TFI

Nearly two and a half months have passed in 2025, and looking at the box office results, there is both excitement and concern. Dubbed films are competing strongly with direct releases from January to March. Although Marco didn’t create a sensation in January, it managed to recover its investment and bring in profits for theater owners. It basically turned the heads and even created an impact in Hindi industry.

The Return of the Dragon, which hit screens in February, was sold for just four crores but is set to make nearly three times that amount by the end of its run.

The recently released Chava is performing better than expected. Despite arriving later than its Hindi version, the audience has responded well. It has already crossed one lakh ticket sales on BookMyShow, and its first-day gross stands at three crores. Geetha Arts Distribution seems to have benefited greatly.

Among direct Telugu films, Sankranthiki Vastunnam emerged as a blockbuster with a collection of 300 crores, while Daaku Maharaj, which released alongside it, was declared a super hit.

Last month, Thandel was a big relief for Naga Chaitanya, earning a total of 100 crores gross. However, other straight Telugu films struggled. Highly anticipated releases like Majaka, Brahma Anandha, and Ramam Raghavam ended up being major disappointments.

Not all dubbed films succeeded either—Ajith’s Pattudala failed to recover even its publicity costs, and GV Prakash’s Kingston is facing a similar fate.

Still, looking at past trends, the success rate of dubbed films is on the rise. This serves as a warning to filmmakers—if strong content isn’t delivered, this pattern will continue.
