Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has been taking over the world for the last few years, and AI will be the future. Meanwhile, the usage of AI has been increasing in the field of cinema as well. While it has been predominant in Hollywood for a while now, even Indian cinema has been slowly adapting to AI technology over the last couple of years.
In the recent past, we have seen various music composers using the AI voice of deceased singers for their songs. Speaking about the usage of such AI techniques in music, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman said, “I don’t know who’s going to take responsibility. Some of the songs are so filthy, yet they’re released using the voices of popular singers. This needs to be controlled, or else there will be chaos.”
Additionally, AR Rahman revealed details about his latest global musical band, which is a part of the metahumans project. This band consists of six virtual musicians representing people and cultures worldwide. Till now, we have seen AI-generated visuals in Indian cinema, and maybe, the time has come to witness the AI-generated music too.
Recently, on a YouTube show, Rahman revealed how he has been toying with AI over the last few months. He said, “I’ve been toying with Unreal Engine, and I am setting up a virtual band with metahumans. It’s a very diverse band, and they are all from the virtual world.”
Rahman announced this metahuman project in February this year at the ‘Abundance For The Future by SWFI’ event, held in Dubai. Rahman has already revolutionised music in India over the past three decades. Now, by adapting AI technology and taking it a step further, he seems to be elevating his musical prowess to another level.
