Can Friday Comedies Lighten the Public’s Mood?

There is a mood of war across the country, with the midnight air strikes on the Pakistan terrorist camps. Operation Sindoor, initiated by India, is successful, resulting in mixed feelings among the people. With the uncertainty at the borders, the war is definitely in the air. In such a scenario, the people are in a serious mode, with emotions running high. In the middle of this, we have two new releases at the box office this weekend.

Sree Vishnu, who is known to be a minimum guarantee hero, is coming up with a youthful romantic comedy titled Single. After Swag, he decided to level up with comedy entertainers. He is working with a big banner like Geetha Arts for the first time. Despite the film’s trailer attracting controversy, the team was able to pull enough buzz towards the film. The vibe is good, but we have to see if it can get translated into revenue in making the film a big hit.

On the other hand, Samantha is testing her luck as a producer with Subham. Billed to be a horror comedy, her name alone is going to pull people to the theatres. Featuring relatively less familiar faces in the leads, the film is directed by Cinema Bandi fame Praveen. The trailer opened to a decent response, but horror comedies might not always be a safe bet. It completely depends on the mood of the public to accept a horror comedy. Also, it’s been a while since the audience enjoyed a horror comedy. If attempted well, the film can become successful.

However, the buzz for both movies is still mixed. With HIT 3 slowing down a bit this weekend, it gives the new releases a better chance to make their mark. Still, with theatre footfalls steadily declining, it remains to be seen how much these comedies can impress the audience.

In the time of a rumoured war, if these films can bring respite and improve the mood of audiences, it is a good sign. But if the tensions escalate and the people are in no mood to watching cinema, it will be impacting the new releases badly. Whatever it may be, we have to wait couple more days to arrive at a conclusion.
