AR Rahman’s Bold Take On Song Remixes

AR Rahman has of late, expressed disappointment over how remixes are often handled in today’s music industry and art of filmmaking. Rahman also shared some exciting insights on the standards of the film industry and how indie filmmaking is evolving in terms of creativity and original content. 

The Oscar-winning music composer is known for his iconic works for the last few decades. And his music has made an indelible impact on the hearts of music lovers.

In a recent interview, Rahman recalled how filmmaking had an innocence back in those days which he always loved to the core. Now it has become more calculative with pre-set templates and redundant ideas, he said.

Rahman happens to say that it is a good thing that filmmakers these days know what they want. But the bad thing is that their ideas have become repetitive and “they want something that already existed”, he said, citing how remixes have happened to become centerstage.

Rahman further worried about how modern-day storytelling has become safe and formulaic as he warned that it would hamper innovation and freshness. He notices that the trend is not just prevalent in Bollywood but also spread across the Hollywood studios.

He felt that audiences of this era are being choked with repetitive stuff and ideas which are contrived and safe. He said it is not entirely concerned about India and it is all over the world — they just want money to come in. This is where Independent movies took the wheel where they put maximum risk as well as add value for the original content.
