In a surprising development, actor Vijay Deverakonda is facing legal trouble after a complaint was lodged against him under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for comments he made at a recent film event. The complaint is linked to his speech at the Retro pre-release event in April, which upset members of tribal communities.
Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, the State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities, filed the complaint. He said Vijay’s words were insulting and hurt the feelings of tribal people. The issue came from Vijay’s comparison of the Kashmir conflict to tribal wars from 500 years ago.
During the event, Vijay said, “Pakistanis behave like tribals did 500 years ago with the way they fight.” Although his speech aimed to promote unity and the value of education, this comment was seen as disrespectful toward tribal communities. He also said, “We should stand united and move forward. Education is super key.”
After facing backlash, Vijay gave a public apology, saying he never meant to offend anyone. “There was absolutely no intention to hurt or target any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, whom I deeply respect and consider an important part of our country,” he wrote.
Even with the apology, the Raidurgam police have filed a case under the SC/ST Act. An investigation is now ongoing. The issue has become a hot topic in Tollywood, with many tribal groups asking for proper action to be taken. Fans and the film industry are now watching closely to see what happens next.
Meanwhile, Vijay’s upcoming film Kingdom, which has been delayed a few times, is now expected to release in late July or early August.
