These days, film buyers are worried because the gap between theatrical and OTT releases has become very small, and that is affecting the number of people coming to theatres. Even though the big screen gives a special movie experience, audience habits have changed since the pandemic. Now their thinking is different, and it has become harder to impress them.
Actors, directors, and producers often request the public to watch movies in theatres first instead of streaming them at home. But today, 8 Vasantalu cinematographer Vishwanath Reddy gave a surprising opinion.
At the film’s success event, he said the movie might actually look better on Netflix than in theatres because of the advanced picture quality. This unexpected comment left the media shocked. It sounded like he was indirectly asking people to wait and watch it online instead of going to theatres. Normally, filmmakers say you should enjoy the big screen first and then revisit it digitally, but this was different. When someone speaks so clearly about this, even the few people planning to visit the theatre might change their mind.
Maybe Vishwanath Reddy had a bad experience watching it in a regular cinema, but the message ended up sounding negative. when media alerted about his words, he quickly recognizes and says sorry on stage.
In today’s social media world, every word spreads fast. Though 8 Vasantalu had a poetic touch, it did not get much positive response. There are reports that some Sunday shows were cancelled in a few places. At such a time, promotions should be even stronger. Saying that Netflix offers a better experience than theatres does not help the film.
Another strange thing is that director Narendra Phanishetty, who became popular with Arhata, and the producers were not present at the success meet. Skipping a short event like this has led to more doubts. Still, the team that did attend claimed their film was a super hit.
