Superstar Mahesh Babu is the most deserving actor to play Lord Sriram on the screen. Many directors in the South and North film industries expressed the same multiple times in the past. However, he was approached to play Lord Sriram in Nitish Tiwari’s Ramayana, but he let go of the opportunity only to be a part of Rajamouli’s next film. With Ramayana’s glimpse hitting the online today, this discussion is back in film circles.
Mahesh Babu was always open to working with Bollywood directors, but his first preference would be Telugu cinema and Telugu directors. Hence, when the opportunity of Ramayana knocked on his door, Mahesh was ready to do it, but it clashed with his already committed film with Rajamouli.
Team Ramayana reportedly demanded dates from Mahesh Babu, during which he was already occupied, and even sold the dates to Rajamouli’s producers. Hence, Mahesh could not do the film. Even as a strategic move, Mahesh would always pick Rajamouli’s film because it elevates his market, stardom, and reach multifolds, compared to the result of Ramayana.
Ramayana might also bring laurels to Mahesh Babu but a film with Rajamouli adds more value to his filmography at this juncture. However, some of Mahesh’s fans today expressed their disappointment for Mahesh skipping Ramayana but they will surely be compensated with Rajamouli’s project, a globe trotting African adventure drama.
