New Trend In Tollywood: Rural Dramas On The Rise

Telugu cinema explores different genres and trends from time to time. If one film becomes a hit, then automatically, other filmmakers also follow suit. Currently, the latest trend is on testing luck with rural dramas. Especially, our stars are interested in supporting rural dramas with fictional plots. The outcome so far has not been extremely great, but everyone is tapping the potential to see if they can pull out revenue spinners.

Samantha turned producer with the horror comedy, Subham. The film witnessed a positive buzz during the promotions, and the film’s outcome at the box office is also decent. The word in the trade is that the recovery has been made by the producer. The film featured relatively less familiar faces and was also made on a shoestring budget. Now, Samantha seems to be eyeing more similar movies.

Rana Daggubati has always been first in promoting fresh and raw talents especially with rural dramas. Be it C/o Kancharapalem or Pareshan, he is always the front runner. Now, he is hoping to translate their next outing, Kotapalli lo Okkadu, to a huge blockbuster. The trailer already generated a special interest and we have to see if the film also becomes a hit.

Keerthy Suresh recently attempted a rural drama with Uppu Kappurambu. A fictional story set in a rural area with quirky characters did not impress the audience. The film failed miserably, and it did not have a theatrical release but was released only on OTT.

On the other hand, actor Kiran Abbavaram is coming up with a new film, Timmarajupalem TV. The film introduces a lot of newcomers as actors. The director will also be marking his debut with the movie. Kiran is producing the film with the intention of bringing some rural stories to the silver screen.

If Timmarajupalem TV and Kotipalli lo Okkadu become successful, we can expect more films to join the bandwagon.
