EPIQ, Dolby and More: Hyderabad’s Big-Screen Expansion

Hyderabad is seeing steady growth in demand for better cinema experiences as audiences spend more on tickets. With more people wanting large-format screens and advanced projection technology, multiplexes and premium cinemas are upgrading their facilities. Several theatres across the city plan to introduce new formats to improve viewing quality and meet changing audience expectations.

Four major cinemas in Hyderabad will launch premium formats in the coming months. Each upgrade is timed to coincide with big film releases or key periods expected to bring in large crowds.

First, ART Cinemas, a collaboration between Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja and Asian Cinemas in Vanasthalipuram, will launch the EPIQ format on July 31, timed with the release of Kingdom. This will be a significant addition to the city’s large-screen options, especially in the eastern area.

Next, AMB Cinemas in Kondapur, operated by the Asian Group and Mahesh Babu, will install a new HDR Barco projector set to go live in August 2025. This upgrade, scheduled before the release of War 2 on August 14, will enhance brightness and contrast at one of Hyderabad’s busiest locations.

PVR Inorbit in Cyberabad plans to introduce its premium large format, P[XL], by December 2025. This will add another high-quality screen to one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs.

Finally, Allu Cineplex in Kokapet, owned by star Allu Arjun, will open a Dolby Cinema screen in January 2026. The multiplex inauguration will happen at the same time. Dolby Cinema is one of India’s rarest formats and could become a major attraction in the fast-growing western suburbs.

These upgrades show a trend where theatre owners are investing in technology and formats to keep audiences coming after the pandemic. As ticket prices rise and home viewing options increase, premium formats will be key to keeping the cinema experience attractive and relevant.
