Andhra Pradesh IAS officer named Vikas Marmat, who involved in an ugly altercation with Bengaluru police after a late-night pub activity, has been immediately transferred as part of the disciplinary action after Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu took a serious note of the incident.
The 2019-batch officer was serving as the project director for Kuppam Area Development Authority in Naidu’s home constituency. Last weekend, he was booked for using objectionable language on police officers who inspected the Cavore Bar and Restaurant in Bengaluru for a routine checkup.
A video showing the young bureaucrat hurling harsh verbal abuse at law enforcement officers rapidly went viral across social media channels. The shocking video footage created huge anger among the public and triggered a major political row in neighboring Andhra Pradesh state.
Taking very serious note of the public embarrassment, CM Naidu directed the AP Chief Secretary to conduct an immediate inquiry and submit a detailed report. Acting on the directions of CM, the Andhra Pradesh government officially issued transfer orders removing Marmat from his Kuppam posting.
Senior government officials indicated that further disciplinary actions might follow soon based on the final inquiry report. Bengaluru police confirmed that criminal investigation procedures will continue normally regardless of the officer’s administrative transfer.
